Which Graphics Card for a Notebook is best?
I am not an intense gamer, but I do love to play my share. I especially am thinking of something similar to WoW or really any MMO, and possibly some FPS games. Can someone explain to me the number system behind nVIDIA and grant me some direction as to which are good, better, and best?
Answer:
As said previously an 8600, 8700, 7900, 7700 are adjectives excellent chips. Here is a way to make sense of all the other ones.
A track to decipher the numbering system from Nvidia:
It is a 4 digit number beside a few letters at the wrapping up:
First number is the generation of chip usually 6,7,or 8 the superior that number, the newer the chip which means more features.
The second number is how nifty that chip is in their line-up. 1=slowest within the line, 5=midrange, 9=fastest they can craft it.
The third number is usually a 0 or 5. 0 for first version, 5 for newer version/update but could also refer to specialty book (like mobile).
The fourth number has other been a 0 to clear it look more impressive although they could use it for another revision if they required to.
The last two digits are usually used to differentiate pretty much very models where they overclocked the speed on one. Usually GS for original and GT for faster, although I've seen GTX and GTS on their home models...both are speedily so GT and S for slower and X for xtreme.
So, an Nvidia 7950 would be 7th generation, 9 so fastest contained by the line, 5 for revision over the 1st model. In short a really speedily 7th generation (direct x9) card.
An Nvidia 8600 would be 8th equals (direct x10), 6 so just over middle of the road, 0 for 1st revision (just just this minute came out).
If you saw 6150 (on cheaper laptop) it would connote 6th generation (old), 1 slowest within the line, 5 updated from first revision. Bad--but still better than integrated graphics
Nvidia Go 7900 GTX and 8700M GT is the best right now i believe. consequently the 7900 GS is 2nd..i'm using a Toshiba gaming comp. with a dance 7900 gs.
This link will facilitate you a lot.. http://www.nvidia.com/object/wtb_noteboo...
I own this Toshiba http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c/rdet...
It will play WoW effortlessly. I play America's army on it and it runs really really smooth. Runs about 70-80 FPS. Really expensive gaming desktops run around 100-130 FPS. I recommend the toshiba. Alienware overprice adjectives of their machines without give somebody the third degree
To the guy below me, 8700M GT is the best not the 8600 lol. One thing he be right about is the up to date Direct X10, but you said your not a intense gamer so don't worry almost that. Get a 7 series (7900 GS| 7900 GTX) Nvidia Laptop. They arn't as expensive as the new 8 series, which be just released closing month. It will run anything
maybe 5 months ago
right in a minute the best card is nvidia 8600m GT

ati x1600 and x1700 are good too but are directx 9
