Dell Inspiron 1510 laptop - it is advertized to be a 'heavy' duty, hard working contrivance . . . after 2 weeks of hard travel use? No problems or complaints, so far.

I would have to vote Dell or Compaq, both company's make really polite laptops..
I would probably go to a local store and spend 6-8 hundred bucks do not overspend because the article will only ultimate you a couple years and the technology will pass you by. Ten years ago, it made sense to buy the best but in a minute it does not. Most computers do pretty much what you need it is adjectives about personal preferences. I would buy locally that opening if you encounter a problem it is much easier to return.
You need to opt what all you want to know how to do with your computer and basis your purchase decisions on that. IE- If you want to know how to burn and/or watch movies later you should make sure it have those features.
