antediluvian laptops don't fetch much money as a trade in. depending on the age, they may not even be interested within taking it back. Packard Bell be unfortunately not a better brand and does not hold much resale importance compared to IBM or others.
Donate it to a charity, or a school, and consistency better about that, than getting little or zilch for the trade in.
trade-in's don't procure anything. sell it on ebay or craigs register, then buy the computer you want.
Your best bet is selling yours... depends how infirm it is, it may not be worth selling. I've not found anywhere that does 'trade in' on laptops cos they lose so much value so hurriedly.
Depends what the spec is, how old it is what price you'd win... my old PIII-500 compaq isn't worth beans - going on for lb50 on ebay. Sad as it may seem... the best use for it may be landfill or recycle... or 'digital picture frame'... or wifi print server for you at home.

Trading pc's isnt a very worth-while practice. To capture the most of your older laptop, simply install a linux distro on it. check out www.linux.com and dance into the distro tab to choose which one is best for you. I recommend knoppix or ubunto for a trial, as both of them are live cd's without the obligation to install anything.
Also, think logically; who would want to trade a unknown laptop for an old one? Some inhabitants might want to buy it, but don't expect to get final what you paid for it. Processing power doubles every two years, and computers run obselete fast.
