Why is my mac so slow? How can I produce it faster?

I get my Mac back surrounded by 2004, and I am planning on probably replacing it within the subsequent year. I've noticed lately it have started to slow down. Is it because of all the photos I own? (2355 pictures) Or music? (909 songs) I know I have like mad of junk on this computer and I don't enjoy a clue how to clean it up or sort the computer go faster. The computer lately have been giving me that rainbow symbol abundantly. Applications take longer to nouns, and it seems the computer can't toy with me having as oodles applications open as it used to. Is at hand any software I can buy to make it stir faster? Anything I can do? I have an external 100 gigabite harddrive where on earth I also back up my photos. This is the information in the region of my computer:

Answer:
First Run the Disk Help Application. (Should be in the Utility Folder inside the Applications Folder) and Run Repair Permissions within it. Even run it a few times if you never did it before.

Run Mac janitor ( http://personalpages.tds.net/~brian_hill... ) It runs the cleanup procedures that in general only run during the nighttime. (Mac OS X = Unix. Unix does his 'housecleaning' during nighttime, but if your computer is bad it never does)

I hope this helps
If you hold lots of programs installed on our computer, it will slow it down dramatically. Why don't you take an audit of your programs and see what you can uninstall so you can speed up your processing. Also, try to defragment your computer so it will run better. Since you own an external drive you can delete some of the files you don't need to access at the moment. That will free you some disk space.
Since you're going to be replacing it soon, why not burn CDs of your photos and music, next delete them?

Also be sure to empty your trash, verbs out the cache and browsing history.

Check to see what apps load when you sign on, and lone open those that are beyond doubt necessary. Keeping profoundly of apps open will slow things down considerably.
