Installing modern DVD RW drive, not recognised - Laptop!?

I've only purchased a new DVD RW slimline drive for my Dell Inspiron 2200. It's a Nec Optiarc ad-7543A. I've taken out my prehistoric one and replaced it with this but I can't appear to get my laptop to recognise it. I know in attendance is power reaching it because when I insert a disc it spins and the light comes on. The drive is not showing up contained by "my computer" or in the device inspector. I've tried using the "add contemporary hardware" feature but it doesn't give the impression of being to be detecting it. I don't know much about hardware but I checked BIOS and couldn't find an entry for the drive at hand either. I read going on for "jumpers" but I can't seem to locate them on the drive and I'm not sure if it even have any. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You probably didn't uninstall the resourceful cd-rom drive under Device Manager.

I've see this before beside Dell laptops.

Right click on My Computer, select Properties.

Click on the Hardware tab.

Click on the Device Manager button.

You'll see a list of hardware on your laptop.

Go to the item that say DVD/CD-ROM drives and click on the "+" symbol to the left of it.

The enumerate will expand with the model of the drive nominated under it. Right click on that drive and select "Uninstall".

Reboot your laptop, and agree to Windows detect the new drive.

does those drives enjoy a jumper on the so you can set the boot strap setting (AKA slave, master, single master, or master next to slave pressent)

cause if it does and both the HDD and optical drive are set to alike thinf you will have a conflect and it wont work.

or you could hold a defective optical drive. if that's the case dispatch it back or jump back to where on earth you bought it and exchange it or get your money wager on and go somewhere else

or possibly that drive needs a driver that isn't surrounded by the windows driver database. wreak if it still has the window install that came next to your computer chances are it just has the driver set for your model of computer and you will inevitability to go to the capitalist web sit and download and install the driver up to that time it will work. those windows install's from dell are fundamentally limited and sometimes singular come with the drivers that the system requires and that's it.

On the back of your unsullied drive is where you can find the pullover settings. There are a series of 4x2 pins - you should see a little plastic clip on one two pin set. Now, if you are sharing the notes cable with your complicated drive - the jumper must be set to "slave". You should see the explanation of your pullover settings on the top of the drive - or in your guide. If the DVD drive has its own notes cable - set the jumper to "master".

Dells are pretty expert about what hardware you install within them. It may not work in your system if it isn't Dell recommended. I looked on Dell's support site:

The model NEC you hold is not listed within the list of device drivers. Try going to NEC's site to download the driver for the model you hold (if they have one). Or try one of the NEC driver's on Dells site to see if that will install, and possible function. Other than setting jumper, that's all I can estimate of. Check Dells support site to see the manual for your system. Perhaps they can back you with pullover settings. Good luck.
Someone once told me that there is even a problem surrounded by loading a retail version of window operating system onto an empty fence on a dell PC. Dell Pcs are made and closely matched together in a system so some generic parts if purchased for it don't give the impression of being to work together, but I may be wrong in diagnosing your dell laptop. In a middle-of-the-road optical desktop drive, usually only 3 cable connect to the drive, which is the ribbon data cable, the power cable and the audio cable. But on a laptop I'm not sure. The best bet is to bring it to a local 'chinaman' pc shop who may know how to fix it up. Apart from that you should go stern to a Dell repair centre or name their toll number.
