Laptop internet nouns problem?

The laptop is a window 98, we just get it from a friend and the internet didn't work. I tried it last darkness and it worked at my house. My friend, and owner of the 98, can't get his internet to work. Any adjectives ideas?

travel to start menu, run, type CMD and hit enter

in the box that pops up, type: ipconfig /release

hit enter

later type: ipconfig /renew

and hit enter again.
I don't no much about Windows 98. But why don't you upgrade to window 2000. It does not cost that much. It works ok. I use it .
Well if you have the ETHERNET plugged already into an existing computer appropriate it out and wait 1 min. Then plug it into the laptop.
