Answer:
Even if you fix the "Wrong Computer" message (below), you may still have vanished to do an official Microsoft authorization of your Vista OS if not resort to bootleg versions / authorization cracks.

Is this a Toshiba?
Toshiba's usually do the "Wrong Computer" message because information (called DMI) just about your particular computer be not stored on your computer and is missing -was not done after last OS install or some other root.

You can run the DMI update utility, or try this:
1. Pop in the compact disc.
2. Press F12 immediately upon seeing the Toshiba logo.
3. Select the compact disc to boot to CD.
4. It will prompt you to verbs or quit, press F1 to continue.
5. It will distribute you the "Wrong Machine" error.
6. Type Q: at the DOS prompt to change to the Q: drive (a RAM drive setup by shipment file).
7. Type cd\base to make over to the base directory.
8. Type os (or os.bat) and press Enter. This will start ghosting the photograph to the computer.
9. When it is done with disc 1 it will prompt for disc 2 and consequently disc 3.
10. When it is done, eject the disk and press the key it say to continue.
11. It should reboot into the setup for XP.

Here is the standard Toshiba mfr response to this question:

"It is most probable that the DMI information is missing after your last repair. This is a standard procedure/setup that requests to be done when a Motherboard is replaced on your notebook. Please contact the Toshiba Authorized Service Provider who performed the later repair on your notebook."

comment from a discussion on this:

"You need to rewrite the DMI string within your machine so that the repossession disc will work. The utility is available at the Toshiba Tech Support website under the almanac for your model. The filename is toshdmi10.exe."
Okay so this is a known problem near some of the toshiba laptops. Basically what happen is that the information surrounded by the BIOS (e.g. the board name, revision, etc..) isn't written correctly So the recovery disc fail. Your options for fixing this is to any google for the software fix (i lost my copy), call toshiba , or appropriate it to a geek squad location (I'm a former GS agent so i know they can fix it).
Welcome to Microsoft Activation Hassel (MAH). It is an ineffective system at preventing piracy, however, it is effective at frustrating lawful users. Microsoft wants you to buy a NEW operating system disc at a cost of $200-400 even tho your operating system is legit because they have a software flaw which cause false positives.
The solution:
1. Throw money at the problem and buy a new Windows compact disc, and, of course, it could still crop up again, and your problem would still not be solved.
You can also call Microsoft and earnings them by the minute to have them convey you to buy a new compact disc.
2. Go to www.kubuntu.org and get Feisty Fawn and NEVER PUT UP WITH MAH again, ever.
