I can't speak for ATI Ihave never used one ,I enjoy though used several Nvidia cards and always have good luck wth them .I have a computer with a nvidia Geforce Mx4000 Cheapo that be ok.But When I built my own computer I originaly went near the geforce 7600 it was roughly $100.00 then I swapped it for a Sli compatible Geforce 7900 (over $400.00 You seize what you pay for.I would Love to enjoy a Geforce 8800 GTX that is the Ultimate Holy Grail of Graphics cards .
Nvidia offer the 8800 line
while ATI offer the 1900 line which is contained by the 1950 incarnation
