3-4 USB ports is typical. Price have nothing to do near it; it's merely a matter of choice among manufacturer. My $2,800 HP Compaq business-class notebook only have 3. If you need more, you can other buy a USB hub.
Most laptops only enjoy two or three USB ports. If you want more you will need a USB expander.
Many laptops in actuality have solitary 2 (a few even 1, yikes). Three is kinda the 'norm' these days--I bought a brand new laptop in recent times last December that have 3.

You can daisy chain USB up to 112 devices from one port. What would be the point contained by putting four of them on a laptop? My $1500 HP only have two, my old Thinkpad single has one. The card has two ports, but I own never used both at the same time.

The number of USB ports is in no opening reflective of the computers capabilites. It is more about actual expertise of the system. Can it burn DVDs, CDs, built-in card reader, etc? For that price, I would expect at least 1 Gig of RAM, a wearing clothes video adapter, DVD+/- RW drive and no less than 80 Gigs on the knotty drive. From there I would compare the extra goodies close to USB, Fire Wire ports, card readers, etc to underneath my decision.
Look to the HUB. New monitors and even keyboards come next to USB ports. Even with lone 4 ports, I hooked up enough periphs to a PC today to endow with the guy TEN USB ports without even bringing an actual USB hub into it. Someday, exotic machines will have even smaller number than three methinks.
