I own an IBM Thinkpad and am attempting to upgrade the amount of RAM that it has. I looked on the IBM website and it states that this model will support up to 1GB of RAM. I built my destop computer but the motherboard supported up to 4GB so i never have to deal near this problem. So if I was to find a stick of RAM that would fit into the laptop would BIOS sanction it and even if it doesn't would Microsoft Windows XP Pro which i have the laptop running on be capable of detect the RAM itself instead of following BIOS. Furthermore does anybody know of a flash upgrade that might update bios to allow larger amounts of memory. While I am well versed next to computers I am sure somebody else out there will enjoy more knowledge on this benevolent of stuff. Any help is greatly appreciated.

If they read out it only supports 1 GB of RAM, consequently it will support only 1 GB of RAM no business how much you put in. It's NOT a BIOS shortening. It's a CHIPSET limitation.
About a week ago we have a similar topic here. A guy has a Thinkpad. He put contained by 4 GB of RAM, but the system sees solitary 3 GB. Turns out his Thinkpad has a 3 GB RAM stricture.
