What type of laptop is best to purchase between these option?
a guy i work with is a computer analyst by daytime and said the best computer/laptop made is a Gateway. We have a dell desktop and I am not a devotee, but I hear their laptops are nice. I liked how I get to construct my own on the website...it was pricey, but i get to choose what i wanted.
so, Gateway or Dell? or another choice?
i am a big music fan, i hold an iPod, so this might factor into the decision of which would be a better music laptop.

Really analyze what you are using your computer for first. Are you using it like mad, daily? Monthly?
How much are you in actual fact on the internet?
You can put less money into a pricey smart phone that let you do all internet stuff very soon or for laptop more suited for music, you want a lot of gigs because it take up a lot of space - mac is more orientated for graphics so I'd right to be heard for you maybe that would be a better substitute even if your not familiar, clutch a look.
i'm sorry to hear you don't like you Compaq. I hold two at home and have never given my trouble. I'm not a follower of dell; so of the two i would say Gateway, though i'm not a Gateway advertiser either. you may want to look into HP, their stuff is worthy. What's the problem with the Compaq?

i hold a dell.. and its not that nice. i think gateway is better. but dell works apposite with ipods...
