My computer have be restarting itself on its own frequently. Windows say it is due to a "stop error"?

I enjoy a Sony Vaio notebook with Windows XP. Has anyone have this problem? What could it be? My first assumption is that it was overheating, but I hold no evidence to back that up. The simply program open at the time be iTunes, and it wasn't in use. Only valuable answers please.

Answer:
Actually the problem could be a very simple fix minus reformatting. It would help if you submitted the Stop Error Code that displays on the BSoD. I would bet anything that it have to do with RAM going fruitless. Another thing to check is to:
Go to Start Button
Then Control Panel
Then Administrative Tools
Then Event Viewer
Click on the System tab and scroll through to check for any errors. If you see anything that displays an exclamation spot it could point to the problem...Good luck.
format it and reinstall

Laptop are notorious for over heat if it is it might need a cleaning ,this nouns strange to some but just put a vaccum hose to where on earth the fan is and turn it on dust is a big facter surrounded by over heating. It could also be a desperate secter on hard drive or desperate ram.A desperate secter can usually be fixed by a format and reinstall bad run into means a trip to the store for more ,dust is capably just a spasm.
ya dude i also had this problem its due 2 virus dude it as infected by virus it restart after 10 mintues so format the system or do one entry downlod the anti virus and scan whole system ok dude
check out wikipedia for that one. near could be alot of things doing it. i would make sure our processor and everything similar to it is not overheatring. take your travel case apart and make sure here is not a ton of dust and debris that are colgging up your heatsink and processor. i havd like peas in a pod problem and it was because my processor be overheating. otherwise it is a program that is causeing a brutal error that the O.S cant recover from. u mite hold a virus or just some stupid program doing somthing banned. try cleaning up your installed programs (add/remove programs in control pannel). some program is doing somthing doomed to failure. or it could be the o.s itsself having trouble contained by the registry.
that is a virus, it keep opening applications contained by the back ground unseen untill it have so much open it uses up adjectives the memory and the computer crashes and restarts. It is real unyielding to work on a computer like this because it crashes so habitually, so use another computer and download the free anti virus www.avast.com install program, just do a let go to disk, then verbs it to the infected pc, start the workstation and install the anti virus program as fast as you can from the disk you made near the avast setup program on it. Good luck. it is a pain to fix.
