Do I obligation a software or firewire card inorder to connect my handycam to my notebook?

I get a sony handycam lately and i am recommended to bought a USB1.1/2.0, IEEE1394/IEEE1394B wire. One extremity of the wire is connected to my v.camera(which the hole is terribly small) and the other end is plug into my workstation USB. However, my pc said the usb device is malfunction and can't be recognised. I too can't import any movies from v.cam. So,
1/ should i get hold of a firewire card? does that work ?
2/ the "hole" of the firewire card is also similiarily small as the v.camera?
3/ I got the "import" software and the "picture browser" provided by sony. very soon, what is the problem?
4/ my laptop is failed to downloard movi from handycam too next to the wire.

pls recommend. To get a firewire card or ...??

thankfulness.

Answer:
Go to the Sony website and download the "drivers" for you model number of Handycam. Then try connecting it again using USB. I am assuming the USB cable you have be made by Sony. Make sure it is plugged into the proper port on the handycam.
chaloobe is right! download the drivers
