when i put cd or dvd contained by of any type the computer doesnt read it...when i go to My Computer nearby is no icon that say CD Drive and adjectives computers have that...when i move about to brun a cd the computer says to attach a burner...?? this computer is a week out-of-date with the hot vista

It is possible, especially if you think you get a good price, that you own a CD/ROM (to install programs) but that it is not a combination burner/CD/ROM.
Check Device Drivers
To open Device Manager, click Start,
point to Settings,
and after click Control Panel.
Double-click System.
On the Hardware tab,
click Device Manager.
if there is a + formerly CD/ROM, click it to see if it is also a burner
If there is no +, you don't own a burner.
If it shows a burner, right click on it and select Properties, It will tell you if it is working properly.
