Windows xp on 550MHz PIII?
i call for it for basic tasks, similar to internet browsing and PDF ebooks.
and may install Kaspersky anti virus also.
would it be impossible to work on?

I was running a Cyrix Gigapro on a 10GB complicated drive and 512MB ram, wasn't speedy by any stretch but it could comfortably surf the lattice and do basic tasks
The PIII outclasses a gigapro inadequately (sad to say). Big thing is RAM, at 512MB it will run fine, but if it be say 256 near is a huge drop in speed. I enjoy an AMD K6-2 550 running XP on a 4GB hard drive and 256MB run into and it is brutally slow in doing things (but can still surf the lattice and download mp3's using uTorrent)
As for the hard drive, no worries in attendance. Windows XP only uses almost 1GB so there will be some room disappeared but make sure you hand down space for your swap file
Your Looking at a Slow Working Laptop, it will work but don't expect Leaps and Bounds.. Good Luck
You may find it surprisingly hasty. P3's were rock solid chips for their time. Obviously a Dual core will smoke it any morning of the week, but it will hold its own. You have adjectives of the minimum requirements met to install the OS. One thing you did not mention be the hard drive size. I judge you will find this to be the limiting factor, the smaller the drive the less you can store, but if unsophisticated tasks are all you want to do after go ahead and contribute it a try as long as you have satisfactory room on the drive to store the OS and a little not here over for programs and storage. You could get by next to as little as 10GB's but you will not be storing any music or video. Cheers..
First, Laptops of this caliber are even slower than comparable desktops, due to slower hard drive read times. With that surrounded by mind this machine will function and work beside WIN XP. Also keep contained by mind, on older laptops when within battery mode the CPU clocks down significantly and slows the device further. While Anti-Virus is essential it will slow this older contrivance down even more. I would not buy this laptop, but as a give away lug it and try it out and see how it works. So, in the shutting to answer your main give somebody the third degree, it will not be impossible to work on, but it will not be extremely enjoyable to use any.
