My biggest problem is: adjectives my video runs slow & looks like debris. Someone told me that having more memory is the best track to fix things. I've already tried everything possible to get DVDs to play clearer & nought seems to work.

Answer:
if they are referring to RAM, afterwards yes, if your hard drive isnt too full, it wont create a big difference, one thing to consider when buying a laptop, is to gross sure you have sufficient innards to make whatever tasks you are using it for, as laptop service can be costly, and even a discomfort if you do it yourself.
memory would be or closing other applications or your dvd drive is messed up. I know dell recalled one of their dvdrw drives. Or even update your drives' driver.
In common, RAM is your friend, you can never have adequate.

Be careful, however, to check that your video card or chipset can lift advantage of extra RAM...mostly they will. (Assuming you are using relatively up to date equipment)

Having more memory won't necesarily give you better clearer metaphors it will just allow you to store more stuff, it's probably the laptop
Has your dvds other been close to this? If not you need to defrag your concrete drive. Search google for windows+defrag
Memory probably makes a bigger difference than any other component contained by a PC. Going from 512mb to 1gb or even 2gb will make a bigger diference to the average user than going from a 1.8ghz dual core to a 2.8ghz dual core.

You might want to look at your video drivers and codecs.

How out-of-date is your laptop and what CPU does it have?
