Why do I repeatedly own to disconnect my laptop power cord surrounded by writ to start it?

I enjoy an IBM T30 model. The power cable has a big AC adaptor surrounded by the middle of it.

Umm bad power cord? You shouldnt hold to. Most laptop cords have a power brick mine does.
