It should be indistinguishable if you shut down with the power button as pressing the actual button itself unless you're chitchat about a forceful shutdown by holding the power button a few second and everything cutting rotten. In which case, can impair data.

I don't think it will mess it up. My laptop at home I shutdown using window but I use a laptop at work that is company property I shutdown using the power button because I don't concern, but we never had any unsaved information or any other problems that I did not do on purpose.
