The easiest approach would be to buy a 2.5" external enclosure, remove the firm drive from the laptop, then place it surrounded by the enclosure and hook it up to your computer via USB. I hold done this many of times, it is an essential tool to promptly upgrade a laptop's hard drive and copy the information to it. In this case, you could simply copy the data to another computer.
Since most computers in this day and age come with a restore disc, it would not be the best odds to go beside that as it would likely wipe everything and restore to factory non-attendance. You can do that to fix the OS problems, (assuming that is the issue you are having), until you have safely save the data via the method I mentioned above.
I have the same problem next to my laptop's hard drive.
I bought a adapter - Sabrent USB 2.0 to IDE/SATA Cable for 2.5-Inch/ 3.5-Inch / 5.25-Inch Drive next to Power Adapter http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/... I removed the hard drive from the laptop and I connected it to my other computer via USB. It act like an external intricate drive.
Unfortunately my hard drive's system background was RAW, so I have to format it into NTFS and recover the files beside a recovery program (that I don't remember what it's call, a friend gave me his) I could get better all the pictures I have, but nothing else (Office documents, video, etc.)
try Okoker Data Recovery or Data Recovery Wizard
