At first I used a wired optical mouse (Swann) but found the dangling wires get annoying after a while. Then I bought a wireless mouse from Logitech, the black cheap one but found it consumed batteries so I kept shifting them. Finally, I purchased Microsoft's wireless 4000 mouse which has scroll left/right and up/down and magnify button and I think is means of access better than Logitech because the scroll wheel is so smooth, and the mouse can be shut down on when you clip it vertebrae. It's also small and handy, supports Vista and uses very little freestyle power (it comes with one AA mobile only) than a normal 2 AA battery-operated. The Logitech mouse consumes power even when left fallow so I kept having to recharge or relocate batteries adjectives the time.
If you are not comfortable with the touchpad you can capture a mouse later. Possibly cheaper too!
That will noticeably be a good investment, especially if you are impracticable to touchpads or accupoint, which comes with the computer.
And for $20, it is pretty cheap for a mouse =)
If you want to own better control over the mouse and were it is pointing later get a mouse. If you resembling photoshop or anyother graphics program get a mouse. It is really sturdy to control where the mouse go on the touchpad for a few weeks, so if you need control take a mouse. If you are just using it for typing or work or surfing the internet consequently you don't need one, but it's adjectives up to what you want.
I would recommend getting a wireless mouse instead. I think you will find it to be much easier. The wireless portion will work on most surfaces. This way you don't other have to own a flat surface for the ball. Much easier when traveling also. If you settle on to get one a battery-operated operated last a long time, no need to spend extra money for a rechargeable one.
I would the touch wad is cool but a regular wireless mouse is really helpful
