Laptop boot up issue (Windows XP)?

When I boot up my laptop after it have been past its sell-by date a few hours, it always comes up "non-system disk or disk error. Replace and strike any switch when ready." Well, adjectives I have to do is turn past its sell-by date the laptop and power it up again an the message goes away. Then when it get to Windows, it tells me that my date and time are invalid. Sure satisfactory, the clock is always wrong and the date will be set to January 1, 1980. What can I do to fix this?

Hi, 2 separate problems here - the date and time are your BIOS freestyle (different to normal laptop freestyle, this keeps the time and date registered even when in that is no other power to the computer hence why even if you don't have mobile or electrical power the clock will stay correct), it needs replacing as when void this happens. The system disk error sounds close to a corrupted system file, if you know the date when this started next restore the pc rear legs to before next by going to start > all programs > trappings > system tools > system restore and putting it back to that date to see if that help things. You definitely havn't get a disk in the drive when rebooting enjoy you? If so that will be the cause but but for do the system restore.

How old is the laptop? I could be that the hard-drive is playing up.

Sounds similar to mabey your CMOS battery is unresponsive. You can replace them fairly well. I would recommend you use Google to find a website that tells you how to replace it.
