I newly bought a modern HP laptop (2000z) and the WIFI is out of use properly. Any honourable counsel?

Are you sure that your machine is connecting to like peas in a pod network that your desktop is? It's entirely possible (especially if your own, private gridiron has a WEP/WPA knob on it) that the system is defaulting to a neighboring signal. Also, are you using the Windows XP wireless networking client or a different program?
If adjectives else fails, disassemble the panel at the bottom that hide your wireless pci card, and check to see if the two antenna diplodes are still firmly seated.
