I newly bought a modern HP laptop (2000z) and the WIFI is out of use properly. Any honourable counsel?

The WIFI will connect but it is slow when connecting to page using Internet explorer 7 (or sometimes does not connect at all). I also tried firefox. My desktop is on the same framework (and is WIFI) and does not have this problem. I tried disabling oodles vista security features but that help little. The WIFI component is a 802.11b/g. Sometimes WIFI works good but it generaly cause more of a hassle than anything. My friend brought over his Dell XPS and it connected with no problems. What are my option to fix this problem?

Specs. of my laptop are:
- Genuine Windows Vista Home Basic (32-bit)
- AMD Turion(TM) 64 X2 Dual-Core TL-50(1.6GHz/512KB)
- 14.1 WXGA BrightView Widescreen (1280x800)
- NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 6150
- 2GB 2 Dimm
- 60GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
- 8X DVD+/-R/RW w/Double Layer Support
- 802.11b/g WLAN
- No TV Tuner w/remote control
- High Capacity 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
- Microsoft(R) Works 8.0
- System Recovery DVD w/Windows Vista Home Basi

Answer:
Are you sure that your machine is connecting to like peas in a pod network that your desktop is? It's entirely possible (especially if your own, private gridiron has a WEP/WPA knob on it) that the system is defaulting to a neighboring signal. Also, are you using the Windows XP wireless networking client or a different program?

If adjectives else fails, disassemble the panel at the bottom that hide your wireless pci card, and check to see if the two antenna diplodes are still firmly seated.
