resourcefully, i think you better upgrade your laptop hardisk than buy an portable hardisk because portable hardisk speed is soo low compare to internal hardisk ( because external usually use usb port which slower than PATA/SATA interface). if you want portable hardisk for background storage, then you can use laptop hardisk next to casing, it cost going on for US$50 for 80 gb seagate hardisk, while casing cost roughly US$10
