But if you are going to academy for video production or art making, then in that should be no question really. Get a Mac if you are making Art, even if your university demands you buy a PC laptop. Buy the PC Laptop if you must, get rid of it on eBay for a profit, and get a Mac next to the money. Or if you are a bit defiant approaching me, then buy the Apple and recount your school you know better than they do.
Most campus now extend support for OS X. Really the only things you will entail to do with a Mac within terms of a campus is connect to the campus network and printers and email. From many years experience surrounded by graphic design, I will explain to you this: If you don't mind a machine locking up every time you try to use it; if you don't mind that partly it's software won't do what it is supposed to do; if you don't mind having to buy specific peripherals freshly for your computer (can't go to walmat on this one) after Apple is the way to jump. Otherwise, get a clothed quality notebook and enjoy the freedom.

Apple and other PC are close to Stick Shift and an automatic on a car. The Apple's are really great because you are competent to do what you want to do (provided you know how to use one). I have used Apple computers for 10 years very soon and usually when some one says "programs don't work" or "computer crashes" is when they don't know how to work an Apple.

-Will crash if you use it like a PC (meaning you own to set your settings because it won't do it automatically like window, Example- How much RAM you need to put together Word Work sufficiently) However there are lots different tutorials on the net to support you out.
-Price, Come on it's Apple and it's quality but still expensive.
-Newer models may indeed know how to use both Windows and OS but this is new and near all exotic software there is bound to be glitches so nought is %100.
-Prejudice, I mean this not as a prank but because when you get one almost everyone have an opinion on apples and largely it is negative because not a soul knows how to create them work.
To put everything into perspective for you if I went out and tried to drive a 2006 chevy corvette (manual transmission) and drive it resembling an automatic I would be pretty angry when the transmission fell out. I might even blame the sports car and manufacturers if I be ignorant of how a stick shift works.
Also trust me Since apples are used for editing and multimedia and if they do crash so much after why we would use them? we would be rebooting our computers every 30min or loosing hours of work if they crashed so much and in an industry that time is of the essence that would be counter productive.
Get a Mac Book Pro if your going to draw from a laptop, I would just bring the least expensive of the three (15" screen) because your not going to really obligation the power.
