I dont hold clue either
The easiest agency to transfer from one notebook to another is to network the two together. and later copy the old harddrive contents to the bright system. Of course this will not work with applications.
Applications can put files everywhere and usually store settings surrounded by the "registry" which is very intricate for an average person to copy. However you can try..
Find the application usually contained by c:\program files\ app name
and copy it to like exact path within the new computer and see if it works. If not cotact the author of the app for reinstallation procedures.
Don't forget to copy the "my documents" folder from the weak system and then if the feeble system is a 2000 pro or xp machine also obtain each individual users directory lower than "c:\document and settings" that holds the information such as your short cuts and in a underhand system directory the .PST files for outlook containing your email and contacts..

Do not take a backup.
A backup of your current laptop will contain drivers which are totally incompatible near your new one and could slickly stop it booting.
Make sure you have adjectives the install files (probably downloaded) and serial numbers with the associated user name. Then install your purchased software on your new laptop. If you do not enjoy the install files then contact the software companies near your registration details and they should be able to back you without purchasing the software agaibn.
I can sympathsize. If this be my problem I would buy a stack of fifty CDs and hand them and my laptop to my best friend who know how to do it properly and say "Here. Would you please engineer me a full system back-up? You may have the CDs that are moved out over as a Thank You."
