Is 1.5 gigs of RAM ample for central use?

So I newly bought my girlfriend a really cheap Dell last week but it one and only came near 512mb of ram. I am planning on installing two 512mb sicks subsequent week which will increase the total to 1.5gb. My question is that in that will still be 2 empty memory slots disappeared on the motherboard, so would there be an auxiliary benefit of upgrading the system to a total of 2.5gb or even 3.5gb to her system if all she will ever do is broswer the internet, listen to music, and use bureau applications or is 1.5gb good ample?

Btw, she has a AMD Athlon X2 3600+, within case that help.

Answer:
There won't be much of a performance boost using those programs next to more than 1.5 gigs of RAM. Even Vista should run fine with 1.5 gigs for internet and department.
1.5 is more than enough. I own .5 and do fine.
1.5gb is plenty for basic use. If you plan to use the PC for gaming, bump it up to 2gb+.

I run next to 512 just fine and I do a bit of gaming to if she be doing a bit of gaming I would upgrade it but if all she is doing is the usual stuff then you should simply set the theme to classic that will construct it run better and you will not have to upgrade. If you find the computer a bit more sluggish still get a jumpdrive to donate on as a speed booster it works just fine for me when I am playing games. That upgrading is not nessisary for vista unless she is playing games.
1GB would be plenty for most things 1.5GB is plenty.
That's more than enough RAM. She'll be only just fine.

Good luck!

512 is enuf for the use....... if she wishes to hav a heavy duty, usin everythi at duplicate time lik listenin to music, browsin the net, downloadin files next u need 1 gb its enuf
I use my laptop to design and trade websites, listen to music whilst doing so, using Microsoft Office and the internet with copious tabs and alternative page open - my laptop have 256MB of RAM!!! Never once have I encounter a problem, not even a "low on memory" message and I am always multi-tasking between different applications. You own 6 times as much and will not encounter any problems.

You should bear within mind that running Vista eats RAM, I use XP but friends of mine run Vista on a 1GB RAM in need any problems or slowness etc.
That would depend on what your GF is looking to do with the computer.. If she's really sturdy into gaming. She might need more. But, that adjectives depends on the games. IF not. Chances are 1 1/2 gig of RAM will be more than ample.
512MB is enough for her. If you are planning Vista , afterwards 1.5GB will be needed
