let say you install xp on a concrete drive but forgot to register online with microsoft past 30 days for key...will you laptop turn regardless?

You'd actually find as far as the login screen and afterwards a message would tell you roughly activating and direct you to a phone number. If you're not getting that far into the boot afterwards it's something else.
I could guess power supply but could just as efficiently be a motherboard issue. Could even be the main processor....no channel to tell near such limited info as computer won't boot. Usually run into problems would be accompanied by some error toot codes so you can at least rule that out.
Sure but you wont know how to use windows! No its not! If you hear or see no stir, make sure the wall receptacle is suitable. If so, I would bet on a bad power supply.

Not usually anyway. If you hold it setup properly, you can boot from a Floppy disc, a CD, or a flash drive.
So, if a disc fail, or the Key Locks( or the absence therof) the OS after it can boot, but not in the productive way

Ofcourse dude... but you'll be required to register/activate the produvts just after logging on. You'll be unqualified to use the computer for things such as watching porn and playing music.
You can log on in Safe Mode (pressing F8 at startup) but next you will not be able to do anything. :(
Best piece is to activate the product or if you are anti-microsoft close to me (simply crack it) or opt for Linux :)

The computer relies on the operating system to do anything: display, print, etc. So, if the OS is missing (or unusable), the computer will be unusable.
XP is not as picky as the new Vista but yes the laptop will lock itself down to reduced functionality which will prevent many operation that are required to just use the computer from up to force you to activate the software. I would suggest getting the knob from microsoft and activating the software previously 30-days is up to prevent many headache.
You need to find on the phone to Mama Microsoft and authenticate you windows OS copy.
