1 drive contained by my RAID 5 is diluted?
I have one free slot to stuff another drive within there. I can purchase like drive from a supplier as the faulty one. If I only put it in in that, is there usually a function to create it take over one of the drives. I know nearby is a hot swap function. Do I set that up and just remove the fruitless drive? Please help me near a way to solving this lacking data loss etc...
Answer:
The opinion of RAID 5 is the ability to replace the drive. Yes replace the drive, re-boot the Server turn into the Perc controller BIOS and add it to the RAID. I never hot swap drives, turn rotten the server before replacing the drive and ensure that the disk go in the doomed to failure drives bay if the Server have a back plane! You may freshly need to replace the drive. The Server could detect the drive and start to remake the RAID. Read the manual first! Backup up adjectives files and do a test restore earlier rebuilding the RAID.
hi there
unfortuantly - you are stuck.
every device have a serial number, and each is different. when you create a RAID, you are assiging a HDD next to that serial No to the RAID, and no other can replace it. If you have files that you have need of backing up, do so without delay, and replace the faulty HDD. recreate the RAID. BUt your disks will be formatted, which is the just problem with RAIDs.
Unfortuantly, in attendance is not much else you can do, because even cloning th disk will not work, due to the serials
I have have a RAID go down on me, beside VERY important documents, and i know how you will get the impression if you dont back things up.
