Hard drive have stopped responding. How can I retrieve information?

When I turn on the computer, the initial blind comes up, (press DEL to enter Setup, F8 for BBS Popup, 2048 MB OK DDR2. Then it says "Auto-Detecting 4th Master . . IDE Hard Disk
4th Master: MAXTOR STM3160211AS 3.AAE
Ultra DMA Mode-6, S.M.A.R.T. Capable and Status OK

After this message, the computer freezes. What's the problem??

If I could retreive the information rotten this hard drive, I could afterwards format it, and reinstall windows, but HOW do I catch the info off it?

Here's my spec

Intel Pentium 4 HT - 3.06 GHZ
2 GB RAM
160 GB SATA Maxtor Hard Drive
Optiarc DVD RW
NVidia Geforce 6200
Windows XP Home Edition

Thanks

The problem seem to be that after the POST checks it hands over to the operating system. The files:

boot.ini
ntdetect.com
ntldr

should be detected and Windows is after loaded.

You could try booting from your Windows XP installation disk and go into Recovery Console to see if you can check/repair you current setup.

If that doesn't work you can recuperate your data by removing your thorny drive and put it in a external SATA thorny disk case and plug it into the USB port of another computer.
Regarding how to capture the info: you can install it on another PC as a slave hard disk and approachable it directly from my computer.
If it's detected by your PC but you were powerless to open it afterwards you can use a data recouping software.
If it's not detected by your PC then you necessitate to send it to a specialist who can replace the skipper of the hard disk and retrieve your information.
After pressing the power button (to start ur pc) press Del key and u will find Bios setup, click on Boot tab, below u will see Boot Device priority, progress their and select hard drive (maxtor) for 1st device boot priority, disable adjectives 2nd and 3rd device priority and save and exit the bios!
1)unplug the workstation from wall outlet and ground yourself out as not to create a static discharge and burn your components out!

2)Open the machine and disconnect drive cable and power plug from the intricate drive/data storage unit. Remove screw and gently slide drive out while anyone careful not to bump/drop or explosion it as that will ruin drive. Also dont tounch any exposed circuits on the bottom of the unit.

3)Install this concrete drive into someone elses working pc, Make sure you install it as a minor drive, if there are 2 drives on 1 drive cable you will enjoy to jumper it as slave and if drives hold a small lil jumper pin at subsidise that says cs thats cable select and adjectives drives in that gadget should be set to cs. If placing drive on its own connector connected to the secondary than you any must jumper that drive to cs similar to rest of drives in that piece of equipment or if main strong drive already in that gadget is jumpered master than you must set the drive your installing to slave. If your installing (sata) serial ata drives that you just plug them within with no confusion to a connector on the train other than prime connector.

4) boot that working pc and see if it picks it up as a slave drive because lone boot sectors may be shabby and you may get lucky and know how to drag/copy data to the working workstation. if this dont work insert windows disk/backup disk and try a window recovery than if that dont work try chance 5)

5)if this dont work maybe you can give somebody a lift to a drive recovery service if information is important and they charge for every megabyte of background they recover! you choose what style a files. The disect drive part by constituent and remove plates insed called platters and they put these platters on spindals and they enjoy a special machine that read the raw disks and they subsidise it up to type a media you choose. Very costly it is!
it as nought to do with the post's he don't know what he's on around. If you can't hear your drive spinning it's dead so you can't retreave anything from it the computer's post beaps are for memory singular not for hardware.
The drive probably has an electrical downfall on the circuit board. I had a similar problem a few months ago. Took it to CBL notes recovery, http://www.cbltech.com , they did a free diagnostic determined the problem (circuit board) and recovered my facts. JT
