RAID- Redundant array of individual drives.
Basically multiple tricky drive linked together to deed like one. RAID 0 affords storage space by linking multiple strong drive together. RAID 1 provides fault tolerance by making copies or mirrors of the drive on another, if one fail the data is on another disk and the RAID continues to operate. RAID 5 distrubtes the background like RAID 0 but provides scorn tolerance. If one drive fails RAID 5 have the ability to divide what the data be one that disk. The user would be able to verbs to use the drive like as a rule. If more then one drive fail, there would be facts loss however.
RAID 0 - Striping, no redundancy
RAID 1 - Mirroring, two disks needed, redundant
RAID 5 - Striping w/ Parity, three disks needed, redundant
