Slowing PC's down?

Does anybody know any sums i can use to make my workstation calculate for more than 5 minutes using anything software like matlab, e.t.c my laptop is a 1.8Ghz centrino duo.....

There are lots of computations you can do, but if you want something to slow or drag a computer down a good strategy is to look for something which combines computation beside moving memory around. A nice operation which involves purely moving memory is a matrix transpose. If you take a substantial matrix (say with thousands or tens of thousands of elements) you can do a pretty obedient job of dragging a domestic device down. One property that makes it remarkably effective surrounded by this regard is that you bring adjacent elements and later spread them far apart, and of course, elements far apart coil up being placed subsequent to each other. A matrix multiply is also pretty correct at this. Try transposing or multiplying bigger and bigger matrices until you bring a desirable performance hit.

If you want something a touch more interesting, try something like computing the Mandelbrot set (see connect below). The Mandelbrot set is very simple to compute but the shape infinitely complicated, so you can pick pretty much anything resolution you like and drag the computation out arbitrarily long. In reality, many good opinion some of the forms near the boundary as lovely, and many a CPU cycle have been adjectives hunting for pretty pictures in a mixture of regions the Mandelbrot set. Not sure exactly what you're after, but there's an infinite number of ways to burn CPU cycles. Hopefully one of those works for you.
