if you're single using photoshop and illustrator, dont spend more money than you need to on this one :)
the core 2 duo 1.8 near the 256mb geforce will suit your needs merely fine.
the 1.8ghz c2d is more powerful than any processor before it, so that's something to preserve in mind too. i myself own a 1.8ghz core 2 duo, and i use it on a gaming machine. i hold run games while running other demanding programs, and i just can't carry this processor to slow down. it's a beast.

contained by benchmarks (test programs) comparing the 2.4 model to the 1.8 model, there are solely very slight differrences. minus question, it's not 100 dollars worth of difference. and to even be capable of see those differences, you have to be pushing your computer to the constrict. i promise, photoshop/illustrator will not take any core 2 duo to its edges under any circumstance.

C2D 2.4 next to 2GB of memory should give your Photoshop a run for your money
for the stuff your doing...PROCESSOR SPEED IS KING...so efficiently core 2 duo 2.4 with the slightly worse radeon. you wont find video really affecting any program.

Honestly, hold you ever considered mac, they are geared for photo editing and video. And you can dual-boot. I just just this minute got a fresh pc for gaming, but sometimes a mac seem like it be the best idea...
