How do you play avi files on a mac?

VLC medium player
it plays anything
QuickTime player or iTunes
.avi files are hit and miss using quicktime, some of them work some of them don't, depends on which avi codec they were encoded near.
VLC (video lan client) http://www.videolan.org/ will usually play them though.
For our friends in the Windows world, VLC will play several of the files that Mediaplayer has trouble beside also, .flv for example.
