Buy a desktop to bring back the most for your money. The batteries don't finishing on laptops anyways. HP or Gateway (emachines) are as good as any for a low priced computer and you buy them both on the trellis and at Best Buy. Dell doesn't have any local store outlets within most states.
You can check Fatwallet.com. Or you can compare the price Best buy, Circuit City, Fry's, Walmart, Dell.
The main entry you need to check is the specification, more complex is more better deal if it is indistinguishable price.

I got my Dell laptop on a website call pcconnections.com and It was $600 beside a $150 rebate. It was $450 but it have been impressively good to me.
I've be buying computers for a long time. I have tried some of the larger retailers approaching Gateway and Dell (too many trial copy software packages pre-installed) but I find more bang for the buck at TigerDirect.com or NewEgg.com. Just engineer sure you look for Desktop PCs and steer clear of barebones systems and possibly refurbished as well.
