There are ways of recovering data, formatted or not.
Best not to use the knotty disk till you've got a definate answer, or until you bring the photos back.
Try Recuva (www.recuva.com). Worth a shot.
I know within are ways of recovering, just that I dont know abundant.
It is quite possible that you can retrieve your pictures depending on several things.
If you a short time ago did a standard format then the background is still there, the OS basically doesn't know how to find it.
If you have written bright data to the disk after this will have overwritten some of the background but you may still be able to retrieve some of your pictures.
You will involve a bit of software as stated above and some time.
You can pay someone to do this for you but as the disk is not diluted you may as well pass it ago your self.
Good luck
Yes you can
I do it all the time, this is why companies who enjoy confidential data physically verbs the drive.
You can purchase software that will scan the drive on show previouse partitions, folders and files.

Yes and No. Depends on many things. Say you own formatted and reinstalled the OS. And the sector of the Hard Disk which you have stored your photos is still in a minute occupied after you can use recovery tools to go and get back your photos.
The process go like this. When ever you write a report to disk the starting location of the files is written in a sector and that address is maintain in Table of Content (TOC). When you format the TOC is erased so presently for the computer all the Hard Disk is free since the TOC Says so.
Now what a Data Recovery program does is read the Hard Disk sector by sector and try to put the files back together.
Go to www.download.com and serch for some notes recovery tools and draw from your photos back.
Most share ware tools would allow lone 20 MB or 25 MB of recovery.
Still inevitability any further clarifications please get vertebrae to me.
