What should I consider if I convert the number of cylinders within my tough drive from UNIX fdisk utility?
The recovery process runs without blemish and it seems that everything be installed properly but "operating system not found" I tried fixmbr, changed the number of cylinders (by using the fdisk utility from linux) becasue when running fdisk from linux, I get a advisory stating that my 40GB hard drive have more than 1024 bytes and that could cause problems near other OS when booting. Also tried repartitioning, marking the OS divider as active (bootable)...
It seem that the OS is in the firm drive but can't boot. Is there a passageway to boot from CD and run the OS from the non bootable tough drive files? I guess that's another question but you can answer this one or the shifting the number of cylinders question.
Thanks profusely.
Answer:
Windows recovery, Linux or Unix? If Windows, gross sure the boot partition is set to involved using fdisk. It should be done during the recovery process but check to fashion sure. It will not boot unless there is an influential partition. Also, if you enjoy one of these new big drives, use the utility to be precise shipped with the drive to prepare the drive beforehand you load the OS. some are too big and requirement an overlay.
Unix/Linux - you'll need to query for partitioning help next to a search engine. It's much easier than a big long explanation here.
