How do i rip a dvd onto my desktop?

Whats the steps to ripping a DVD video consequently burning it onto a DVD+R?

Answer:
ripping a DVD is illegal... copying for private backup is not...

There are rippers close by if you search the right holes, but I shall not point to any.

DVD shrink will copy the DVD as an ISO onto your computer.
Ripping a DVD is to hand impossible. A friend of mine who does this professionally showed me all the ways needed to rip a DVD. Let's merely say that for the conventional computer user - forget about it for in a minute. You basically call for a ripper program, a decrypter program, and then something that puts adjectives the files back together again.

Windows Media will not rip DVDs. Unless you are an expert at window and computers - don't even think something like it. The best you can do is copy a DVD from one to another and there are rather a few programs out there for that.
If you want to upload a dvd onto your harddrive later use dvddecrypter

You can then burn this onto a blank dvd using the medium of your choice. I like Nero 7.
dvds are specially coded so that you can't rip them and burn them again. this is call css encryption.

you should use a program called dvd shrink.
it's natural to use, and works around the css encryption.
I find it impossible to use media center.
With adjectives the copy protection stuff, your best bet would be to rip it with something approaching roxio, then put it on a thumb drive.
Of corce, you could basically use the DVD, but where would the fun be within that? :)
