I am building a spare-backup computer. What would be the better chipset(pentium) for speed/photo retouching ?

If you're doing photos and graphics you're surrounded by the wrong world with PC. If you want soaring quality photos and graphics and the best programs and the fastest route to do these photos then a Mac (apple) computer is the item to go beside. I do photos , graphics, etc. as a professional. I work at a newspaper. There's nought like a pious ole Mac computer for the best in photos and graphics.
All of the professional graphics individuals I know or have spoken to, use Macintosh computers.
If you are considering hooking both computers up for dual processing, I'm not sure, otherwise, anything you have in a minute is ok, and I like the theory of the pentium duo, except I'm told vista is kind of lame, if you are an apple user this isn't any gentle of problem. At any rate something used might be better if it is fail safed somehow, and certainly not really because something new is better so as to own the warranty. If you are talking appendage me downs get what ever you can find. To oblige your search I would also try Fry's Electronics.
I would run something that would support Core2 Duo and a memory dimensions of 4 GB...plenty of memory and plenty of speed for graphics rendering. Make sure to use a high wattage power supply (400W or better) because you will want to use a solid descent graphics card as well.
very well the chipsets are different than the socket and the CPU type well if your looking for the socket it would be best near a 775 LGA socket that supports core 2 duo also get a core 2 duo e6550 or if you enjoy the money get the e6850 and procure this at newegg plus get the hot future proof Gigabyte motherboard the GA-P35-DS3R and a biddable GPU would be an 2900XT if you have the money the MSI 8800ultra it is the price of a 8800GTX and alot fasterso those are honourable parts but a good shield that cools the graphics is the Antec 900 so dont worry something like cooling too much and to cool your CPU get the zalman 9700 and dont overclock.
