My computer won't boot. I inevitability direction please?

I seize the message "Windows cannot start because the following file be missing or corrupt: c:\windows\system32\config\sys... The Windows XP restore disk gives me a restore selection, but when I run it, I don't know what to type in at the prompt. Help!

UNPLUG IT FOR FEW HOURS, & LET IT REST
I would do a full restore of your system. Unfortunately, this will require you to re-install other software that you're using (such as games, email address book, etc. (unless it gives you the preference to save those settings first).
Reboot the PC and stroke the F8 key. Select Last Known Working Configuration.
