What is the difference between the blue and the black ram sockets?
and can they adjectives be used at the same time to plug 4 differant sets hit upgrade or can ya use just the blue or the black??

The difference is to allow you to put in paired strike.
For example - if you buy a nice pair of hit cards that come as a 'paired' set then these two cards should budge in slots of alike colour.
If you bought cheap un-paired ram later use anything.
If your unsure then use any - it wont trash the ram or the laptop.

What motherboard you enjoy would help to answer that query. If it's like one of my older ones, it will be something like 2 slots for SDRAM and 2 slots for DDRAM. You can't use adjectives 4 slots at the same time if thats the defence.
The 4 ram slots you hold can be used by 4 different ram modules. I don't know why but if you are inserting 1GB of knock against, then in that will be an increase in working if you insert two 512MB ram modules one within the blue slot and the other in the black slot. Of course the colors may vary in different motherboards.
I own struggled with this as powerfully in times gone by, but the answer evidently is simple. The RAM slots on your motherboard signify the different types of RAM that you system can handle: DDR (Blue) vs SDRam (Black or Grey). The difficult quantity is in identify the type of RAM you currently have surrounded by your system and matching it the type you want to purchase. One slot should own 2 notches on the motherboard and the other solely has one dent. It is not wise to "mix and match" as other answerer's own suggested. Some motherboards will lock up and others will give intermittent "Blue-screen of death" messages.
Even the DDR RAM have different speed requirements (PC100 or PC133) so be careful not to mix up the speeds.

A lot of mobos that have DDR RAM own two different colored slots. Read your manual to put together sure, but the ones I have worked on use one color for a duet of RAM sticks and the other for another set of RAM sticks. Say that you wanted to upgrade to 3GB of RAM, and you enjoy 4 DIMM slots, the DIMM slot closest to the CPU is the number 1 slot, so insert the first stick of 512 RAM here. If it is blue, the next stick of 512 RAM will walk into the other blue DIMM slot. Your 2-1GB sticks would go into the black DIMM slots.
