OK...just so you know...I also enjoy a Gateway PC.
Now with that said and the years of troubleshooting and usage of my Gateway computer...I already know what the problems could be...
1. Your installation of Windows XP is very soon Corrupted...
Recommendations: Bootup with your Gateway XP installation disk and Choose Repair...
2. The memory on the motherboard is going fruitless and creating read/write errors thus not allowing the system to correctly bootup.
3. The motherboard is going bad and creating read/write errors and not allowing the system to bootup correctly...
4. The rock-hard drive has fruitless sectors on it (Blocks) that isn't storing the information correctly anymore and the Windows operating system is now Corrupt and won't nouns anymore.(hard drive is now bad)
In my assessment...it's the Hard Drive.Why? Because I have a Gateway computer and that be the first thing to progress bad!!!
Take your computer surrounded by to a PC Tech shop and have them bench est your hardware for problems to see only just what has shift bad...But first try to repair the operating system beside your Gateway XP installation disk...
Could be a thousand things dude... try it in "VGA" mode and see if that works.
Your intricate disk may have a bleak sector. Try to scan disk in DOS mode. Then try to start again. If it happen again, I can say that you enjoy a HDD bad sector.
I recommend, though it's complicated, try formating your HDD. But earlier that i know you have files to get better but I don't know if you can back up your files within DOS mode, I've never done that before. But this is the best odds to do when the previous have substandard.
Sounds like a format time to me. If nought works then thats adjectives there is moved out.
