I've come across this problem heaps it's either the power supply or the capacitors on the motherboard that are on their passageway out.

Check the site below so you know what to look for.
That's one reason I use "Standby" so much. It almost not uses any power, and comes right back to where on earth I left sour without the boot process.

You might also try using the free utility at http://www.iobit.com/advancedwindowscare... to see if it can find any Windows issues.
Check to see that Case and/or CPU fan are running.

HARDDRIVE:
Possible that the harddrive is not running at its usual speed,
freezing up or slowing down. Or has quit.
My computer took 20 min. to boot the other sunshine.
I was watching the HDD hustle and bustle indicator light,
and it would remain on, and not fast blinking.
Mechanical devices do have problems.

Harddrive manufacturer have software for download for carrying out tests HDD.

MONITOR PROBLEMS:
A yellow,or red, monitor indicator light indicates no signal is
getting to the monitor from the video card. Could be the card is
not sending a signal, or problem near the cable or connectors.
Card may not be seated properly.
Intermittent quirk in the power supply?
a corrupted sturdy drive can also do this. the problem can get worse over time, too. I have this happening over the course of in the region of a year until one day the computer wouldn't turn on at adjectives.
The hard drive be corrupted and although they temporarily fixed the problem I was advise by the guys at the shop to get a unmarked one in command to avoid even worse troubles in adjectives.
so get it checked out possibly?
Had this on a laptop. The hard drive have a dodgy connection and it be fine after reseating it on connector.
i had one that did that and it turned out to be a unpromising motherboard but it could be the processor the ram or the harddrive as ably.
This happened to me lately a couple of weeks ago - I had to press the power button just about 40 times before it would boot.

It seem to start booting, but after a few seconds would simply shut down again.

In my case, it be a failing power supply - however, as other people hold pointed uot, it could be any number of things, as modern pc's will not power up if there is some criticize,
