Let's assume your computer plus your monitor uses 200 watts (probably not that much, but will make the math simpler).
Let's further assume that you settle $0.10 per kilowatt-hour for your electricity.
Leaving your computer ON 24 hours a day will cost you:
200 watts x 24 hours = 4800 watt hours, or 4.8 kilowatt-hours. At $0.10 per kilowatt hour, it will cost you in the order of five cents per day to hang on to your computer on all the time. This is $1.44 per month or something like $17.52 per year.
So the most you can save is $17.52 a year (by departure it off adjectives the time).

As long as you shut it on and off for biddable, probably yes. Computers take up a ton of power, even when idle. However, they use about 10x idle power as they start up, so only turn it sour when you're done for the day!

I would however reccommend just putting it to standby (which make your computer use just a couple watts) or hibernate rather than shutting it down though. Just because it is faster to start fund up.
People that are saying computers use a TON of power are wrong. Computers are outstandingly efficient espcially when they aren't within use.
Another tip: set it to go to standby after one idle a few minutes. Don't set it to screensaver, it doesn't free energy.
