This utility which is free to try is the idyllic tool for what you are trying to do! If you don't want to use that, do the following:

Click: Start
Select: Run
Type: Msconfig
Select: Startup
Uncheck: All programs which you don't want to start up automatically each time you boot your computer.
Right click on the taskbar at the bottom of the peak and click on Task Manager. Right click on processes and click End Process.
