Windows Vista or Windows Server 2003 may report less memory than you expect
because it's window. get a mac.
Your strike is taking into account the RAM required to use by your operating system, your unyielding drive, your peripherals... you have to clutch into account the imperative components that are using your RAM. There will always be some type of work against based upon this reasoning, the exact amount of balance from what is really there and what you can use depends upon your OS and other factor.

I think window reserves some of the RAM for some reason, I own the same piece happen. I enjoy a gig of RAM but my computer say I have 1023mb of RAM.
32-bit OS will make out 3.2GB max...
If you are running Vista 32-bit, 3.25 is what Windows will use. Vista 64-bit will use the full 4g, though it will still report 3.25g. Your memory is fine, its just a problem near reporting. If you are concerned about the funcionality of your memory look at it within the BIOS, it should report the full 4 gigs.
I am still trying to find where - but Vista can allocate System RAM for the AERO functionality. Sounds to me to be exact what is happening. I don't know where on earth to turn it off at, but if you look at the system properties - will show Video RAM, faithful and allocated. I just don't know where on earth to turn it off nonetheless - am at work and can't browse around to find it - not a Vista machine. Sorry, but hope this help...
