How do i rest lost external thorny drive space?

after transferring notes from a 40g internal hard drive to a 320g external drive which have almost 300g free space i was surprised that the reflect remaining space was in the order of 27g and the total space of the once 320g was reduced to 46g. what is puzzling me is why is it reflecting 46g as total space instead of 320g? what ever happen

Check your partition creation on the 320GB Harddisk.
Microsoft Windows XP sp1 does not competent to support 320GB harddisk. Maximun around 120 - 130GB harddisk only

The amount of divider creation is not your desire volume?
Try Norton Partition 8.0 might help to create a better separator.
