How much memory does a 3 1/2 floppy disc hold?

Answers:
There is a so-called single density diskette that held 720 KB, but those disappeared surrounded by the mid 90s. Most diskettes are rated as HD floppy disks, and are speckled with CH in the vicinity the metal shutter. Those are 1.4MB.

These are formatted with the so-called FAT profile system, and can be read my any flavor of MS-Dos, Windows, and many MAC format system.

Obsolete today near a fading issue. You see, as time go on, the data slowly disappears from this captivating media.

Optical disks are clearly a better choice, for long persistent data storage. A slow BURN beside the FINALIZE option may later 50 years. SO switch to CD-R media.

Thumb drives are a great channel for short term storage and transport. Nearly every computer today have a USB port. Some are pre-formatted for both PC and MAC use. Beware, the failure mode for this Flash memory device is described as Here Today and GONE tomorrow. So consider it as a 2nd backup; or Temporary copy.

A 2GB Flash Thumb drive will hold like data as 1,400 floppy diskettes. That is why I utter that Floppy Diskettes are OBSOLETE.

Good luck and Happy Computing!
1.44 megabytes.
1.44mb formatted for Windows.

2mb unformatted
1.44mb is typical, although there are other variation of 3 /12 inch floppy disks with smaller number (720KB single sided disks) and more capacity (the super disk that can hold 120MB).
Living within the past don't you guess? 3 1/2 floppy disc is old and outmoded with current technology, but not gone. You know what I don't remember how much it i did hold, because it be like a zillion years since I used one. Others articulate it is around 1.4MB.
The standard 3.5" HD (high-density) floppy has 1.44MBs of unformatted space. To use it, however, it have to be formatted which reduces the available space to in the region of 1.36 MB.

ED (Extended Density - 2.88 MB) and HiFD (high capacity - 150/200 MB) floppy dIsks be also made. However, floppy disks are pretty much going the way of the Dinosaurs since the introduction of optical storage disks (CDs and DVDs).
Not satisfactory anymore...

No but really most of the time it's a 1.44 MB
always 1.44 mb I supposed looking at its small size...I'm wondering why do they still exist...aside from the Disc era...
