Now, when you get it. If you plan to use it for Windows XP single (not even Windows 2000), then consider reformatting it to use NTFS. You see, it comes preformatted for any computer, using Fat32. But if you reformat it to NTFS, you will catch much better performance. But it will not work beside Windows 95/98/ME or Machintosh after that. You can get it to work next to Windows 2000, after you HUNT DOWN that fix at the Microsoft website. The FIX makes it so it can work next to hard drives larger than 137GB.
I lately bought TWO 400GB models of the Western Digital My Book. Since I was using them for Windows 2003 Server, I did reformat for NTFS and they work totally awesome.

I would consider buying an internal disk drive and a USB box that is competiable to the drive (ISE od SATA). That opening is cheaper.

I paif lb99 and I get 350GB one.. and it brilliant! get that importantly recomended
if u dont need a remarkably protable one, get a 3.5" one. cheapest and best concert. i recommend samsung for their performance. but you could consider hitachi which is noiseless and extremely fast. or seagate because they hold 5 yr warranty as compared to 3 yrs for other brands.
but if you are looking for a 2.5" hardisk, you should go beside toshiba or hitachi.
