My External DVD burner have an error code 10 (the device cannot start). What should I do?

The drive is a Sony DRX-810UL DVD/CD rewritable drive which is connected to my computer by ILink firewire (6-pin to 4-pin.) It recognize the device, but doesn't install. When I check it out in the device official, it says that "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" I'm running Windows XP operating system on my IBM Thinkpad R52. I've tried updating the drivers, but the Windows updater couldn't find anything. Please minister to!

Answer:
code 10 just money the driver is not installed

why doesn't it install? is there an error message?
Try it on another computer - if it doesn't start here either it may be fried/dead, if it does start than uninstall any associated drivers on your apparatus and reinstall
first thing you should is exchange for another one at the store if the other one will create matching problem then its probably your motherboard out of order properly----------------------... it blinks or any other lights when you turn it on ? if not afterwards its definatly something wrong with the dvd burner
Sounds approaching you just inevitability to re-install all of the drivers and it shoudl certificate it. I agree try it to another box, if it don't work either the drive is imperfect or complete re-install of software and drivers...Of course as last resort
Error 10 is a generic install fall through. You probably tried to uninstall it once before and did'nt bring back it all out. Try to flush for the drive and delete any thing vanished and try to reinstall. "PEACE"
