I had a similar problem. Go to the cdrom manufacturer web site and see if in that is a BIOS upgrade for your model cdrom. I had a TDK cd/dvd burner and it suddenly wouldn't burn my investigational batch of dvd's. Thought I get a bad shipment. Went to TDK's web site and found out that nearby was a bios update that would allow my drive to burn newer manufactured dvd's. IT WORKED.

I've had this problem too.I've be through 4 CD burners and 2 DVD burners since 1999. I've I found out that seriously of burners have a short operating energy. They simply stop working properly because of dust build-up on the laser lens and even changes surrounded by CD-r/rw disc specifications. Cd/DVD burners are cheap to buy now (as low as US$20 on-line or$30 at Wal-Mart. It is not worth the trouble as you will spend more money contained by wasting good disc while trying to numeral out the problem.Trash the burner and buy a new one.
